About DriveSplit

Clear formulas, stated sources and testable results.

DriveSplit is an independent iPhone app created and maintained by Rasmus Lantz to make shared journey costs easier to calculate, explain and settle without hidden assumptions.

Why it exists

A useful answer should be easy to audit.

Shared-trip tools often show only a final number. DriveSplit exposes distance, consumption, energy price, extras, payer count and rounding so a group can check the result before paying.

Fuelkm × L/100 km ÷ 100 × €/L

Litres used multiplied by price per litre.

Electricitykm × kWh/100 km ÷ 100 × €/kWh

Energy used multiplied by price per kWh.

Share(energy + extras) ÷ payers

Rounded in cents while preserving the exact total.

Routes and distance

Planned routes come from Apple Maps through MapKit. A tracked trip uses accepted Core Location samples and rejects points that fail accuracy, timing or plausible-movement checks. A user can replace an estimate with a known real distance.

Vehicle consumption

Manual entries remain the source of truth. The optional bundled catalogue contains compact, processed European type-approval data; it is a starting estimate, not a claim about real-world consumption.

Fuel prices in Spain

Nearby prices come from the public Spanish government fuel-price service. DriveSplit records the source update time when available and allows manual entry because pump prices, discounts and publication timing may differ.

Calculation tests

The native calculation engine is covered with deterministic examples for combustion, electric and hybrid energy, extras, payer selection, driver exclusion and cent rounding. The public calculator is exercised in browser QA with matching representative inputs.

Editorial review

Product and methodology pages are checked against the implemented calculation and privacy behavior when those behaviors change. Dates describe the latest substantive review, not an automatically fabricated freshness signal.

Consumption changes with traffic, speed, weather, elevation, tyres, load and driving style. Route services can return a different path from the one driven. Charging losses and tariffs vary. Government datasets can be delayed. Use receipts, measured distance and actual vehicle consumption whenever the group needs an exact settlement.

DriveSplit is a convenience tool, not accounting, tax, navigation or legal advice. Questions or reproducible calculation errors can be sent to neonswipe.help@gmail.com.

Check the method with your own trip.

The public calculator runs locally and shows every input used.
