How DriveSplit works
Plan it. Track it. Split it fairly.
DriveSplit combines distance, vehicle consumption, fuel or electricity price and extra expenses. It calculates the journey total, assigns each paying participant a share and can create a short-lived link for the group.

A planned trip uses an Apple Maps route and the vehicle details you choose.
2. Choose the vehicle
Select a saved vehicle or enter one manually. Petrol and diesel use L/100 km; electric vehicles use kWh/100 km. Plug-in hybrids can model fuel and electric portions when both sets of data are available.
3. Add real prices
Enter the pump or charging price. Add tolls, parking and other agreed expenses. Pro users in Spain can choose a compatible nearby official station price.
4. Choose who pays
Add participants, include or exclude people from the split, and choose an equal split or a passengers-pay split that excludes the driver.
5. Review the calculation
DriveSplit shows energy used, energy cost, extras, total and each share. Currency is rounded to two decimals and any remainder is assigned so shares equal the total.
6. Save or share
Save the trip locally, then create a recipient-friendly web link when you want everyone to see their amount and the calculation.
Tracking replaces route distance with measured distance
A tracked trip records accepted GPS samples locally while the journey is active, filters inaccurate or drifting samples, and uses the measured distance for the same cost calculation.
Tracking is useful when the driven route changes, detours matter or an estimate is not enough. The app can pause and resume an active journey, restore an interrupted draft and finish into the same review and split flow used for a planned trip.
How DriveSplit treats location
Precise location is requested only for location-dependent actions. Active tracking may continue in the background with the appropriate iOS permission. Raw active-trip samples are temporary app state; the saved trip keeps the final result rather than an indefinite raw route history.
Driving profile adjustments
DriveSplit can use accepted speed, stop and elevation information to form bounded accuracy adjustments. The app explains these values and lets Pro users replace estimates with real consumption or distance when known.
Tracked trips are optional
Planning, manual fuel prices and the public web calculator do not require GPS tracking. If you only need a quick answer, use the free fuel cost calculator.
Calculation rules
One transparent calculation engine
Planned and tracked trips differ in how distance is obtained. The cost formulas remain consistent.
litres = km × L/100 km ÷ 100Fuel cost is litres multiplied by price per litre.
kWh = km × kWh/100 km ÷ 100Electricity cost is kWh multiplied by price per kWh.
(energy cost + extras) ÷ payersPassengers-only splitting removes the selected driver from the paying group.
What a shared link contains
A link shows route labels, distance, optional duration, vehicle label, journey total, each participant's amount and the available calculation breakdown. Names can be replaced with generic passenger labels when the organiser chooses not to include them.
How long links last
Shared trip records expire automatically after seven days and the organiser can revoke them earlier. Recipients can mark their own amount as paid; the organiser reviews and confirms payment state in the app.
Why shared links are not search pages
Every shared-trip response sends noindex, nofollow in both HTML metadata and the HTTP X-Robots-Tag header. They are never included in the sitemap. The management key and organiser device tokens are excluded from public responses.
